Privacy Policy — Smart Image Compressor

Smart Image Compressor (the “app”) is an Android app published by VUK. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your data.

TL;DR

The app runs entirely on your device. It does not connect to the internet, and it does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information, photos, or usage data — with us or with any third party. Ever.

1. What we collect

Nothing. Smart Image Compressor does not collect any personal data, device identifiers, usage analytics, crash reports, or any other information.

We do not run a server. The app has no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no telemetry of any kind.

2. What the app accesses on your device

To compress images, the app needs to read photos you choose:

Photos / Media (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED): when you tap Add images and pick photos from your gallery, the app reads only the photos you select. The app does not access photos you did not pick.
Camera (via the system camera app): when you tap Camera, Android’s system camera app opens and returns a single photo to Smart Image Compressor. The app does not require its own camera permission for this.
Storage write (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, only on Android 9 and below): used to save the compressed output back to your gallery on legacy Android versions. On Android 10 and above, the app uses scoped storage and does not need this permission.

All compression happens on your device’s CPU. Compressed images are written to your gallery or to the app’s private folder, depending on the destination you choose in Settings.

3. EXIF metadata

JPEG and HEIC photos can carry EXIF metadata such as camera model, GPS coordinates, and timestamp. Smart Image Compressor gives you control over what is preserved in the compressed output:

Strip all EXIF (default): the output contains no EXIF metadata.
Keep EXIF, strip GPS: orientation and camera details are preserved; GPS coordinates are removed.
Keep EXIF: orientation, camera details, and GPS coordinates are preserved.

This setting affects only the output file. The app never reads, transmits, or stores your EXIF data anywhere outside the file you save.

The app does not share any data with third parties — because the app does not collect any data in the first place.

When you tap Share inside the app, Android’s system share sheet appears and you choose where the compressed image goes (another app, a contact, etc.). That sharing is handled by Android and the destination app, not by Smart Image Compressor.

5. Network

The app does not request the INTERNET permission. It cannot send or receive anything over the network. You can verify this yourself in the app’s permission list under Android Settings → Apps → Smart Image Compressor.

6. Children’s privacy

Smart Image Compressor is not directed at children. Because the app does not collect any data, no children’s data is collected.

7. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, the effective date above will be updated and the new version will be published at this URL. Material changes that meaningfully affect users will also be announced in the next app update’s release notes.
